Programs: program model
Green Mountain Farm-to-School, through its Farm-to-School Network, provides Vermont schools with on-going coordination of farm-to-school activities that build relationships between schools, farms, and communities. The FTS coordinator works towards three goals: to increase use local food in the cafeteria, nutrition and agriculture education, and community building activities. The Farm to School works an average of five hours per week to provide a variety of services to make the FTS program a success.
Local Food for the Cafeteria
- Coordinates the order and delivery of local food
- Coordinates monthly local food taste tests
- Facilitates Grow-A-Row Program
- Leads training workshops for food service staff and farmers
Nutrition and Agriculture Education
- Develops and coordinates in-class, hands-on nutrition and agriculture workshops
- Coordinates Farm field trip planning and activities
- Plan and prepare school garden activities
- Supports School composting projects
Community Building
- Facilitates monthly Farm-to-School Committee meeting
- Plans school community events including Harvest Festival and Garden Dedication Ceremony
- Design and distribute Farm-to-School calendar
- Prepares grants and press releases to support Farm-to-School program
