Programs: program model

Green Mountain Farm-to-School, through its Farm-to-School Network, provides Vermont schools with on-going coordination of farm-to-school activities that build relationships between schools, farms, and communities.  The FTS coordinator works towards three goals: to increase use local food in the cafeteria, nutrition and agriculture education, and community building activities.  The Farm to School works an average of five hours per week to provide a variety of services to make the FTS program a success.

Local Food for the Cafeteria

  • Coordinates the order and delivery of local food
  • Coordinates monthly local food taste tests
  • Facilitates Grow-A-Row Program
  • Leads training workshops for food service staff and farmers

Nutrition and Agriculture Education

  • Develops and coordinates in-class, hands-on nutrition and agriculture workshops
  • Coordinates Farm field trip planning and activities
  • Plan and prepare school garden activities
  • Supports School composting projects

Community Building

  • Facilitates monthly Farm-to-School Committee meeting
  • Plans school community events including Harvest Festival and Garden Dedication Ceremony
  • Design and distribute Farm-to-School calendar
  • Prepares grants and press releases to support Farm-to-School program
